Panthers Win Again on the Road

 

 

Tuskegee, AL- The Panthers (8-1) of Claflin University outlasted the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University, 72-64, on the campus of Tuskegee University.

 

The Panthers started the game with high energy and sprinted out to an early 13 point lead 16-3 with 15:33 in the opening half. Tuskegee weathered the storm and went on a 19-6 run to tie the contest at 22-22 at the 3:52 mark before intermission. The Panthers went on a 15-6 run, of their own, to close out the half with a 9 point lead 37-28. Benjamin Lawman and Karl Ray paced the Panthers in the first half with 9 and 8 points respectively. Jamale Jones collected 8 points to lead the Tigers in the opening half.

 

The second half began with the Panthers extending their lead to 13 points before the Tigers scored their first points of the half, 41-28 with 16:47 left. The Panther would not allow TU to get any closer than 8 points the rest of the way, to pick up their 8th win of the season 72-64.

 

Preston McCarter scored a game high 18 points for the Tigers. Thomas Richardson ended the night with 14 points in the loss.

 

CU was led by Lawmann with 17 points. Eric Salley came off the bench to score 11 points. Ray and Phillip Brown finished with 10 points each.

 

The Panthers will be in action at home Thursday, hosting the Rams of Albany State University, beginning at 5:30 pm.
