Panthers Defeat Dragons 58-45

Orangeburg, SC- The Claflin University Panthers snapped a four game losing streak, by defeating SIAC member Lane College, 58-45, in the Jonas T. Kennedy Center.

Ernest Sinkfield led the Panthers in scoring with a game high 24 points, with 19 coming in the first half. Jerome Starr added 10 points for Claflin.

Adrian Comer paced the Dragons with 11 points, with no other Dragon scored in double figures.

The Panthers took control of the contest with a smothering defense which caused numerous first half turnovers as the Panthers built a 13 point lead, 34-21, with :48 seconds as the first half ended.

The Panthers were just as smothering the second half as CU enjoyed their largest lead of the game 18 points 39-21 at the 15:06 mark. The Dragons did not give in to the pressure as they seemed to find some answers to the CU pressure and cut the Panther lead to 9 points with a 16-7 run for a 46-37 score, with 5:09 remaining. But key free throw shooting down the stretch kept the Dragons at bay. CU went 9-1 from the line to preserve the victory, 58-45.

The Panthers travel to Pensacola, FL to meet The University of West Florida for a 7:30 p.m. Monday night game.
