Benedict uses Late Free Throws to Defeat Claflin 51-40

Columbia, SC- Benedict pulled away late in the second half, by making 9-9 free throws down the stretch to hand Claflin a 51-40 defeat, on the campus of Benedict College.

The Tigers (16-2) were led by Darius Lane and Lamont Robinson with 12 points each.  Ernest Sinkfield paced the Panthers with 10 points.

The low scoring first half, plagued by cold shooting and numerous turnovers by both teams, had the fans eager to support their teams. However when the dust cleared The Panthers were ahead by 4 points 21-17 at the half.

Benedict picked up the pressure and forged ahead early in the second half 30- 25 with 15:31 left in the game. It was a see-saw battle the rest of the way as the Tigers could not increase their lead over the Panthers. With less than 3 minutes to play Claflin went cold from the field, and Benedict answered with nine straight points from the line to win 51-40.
