Claflin University will host a seminar titled, “Sharpening Your Focus on Communications,” featuring Boston University Associate Professor of Public Relations, Mrs. Jo O'Connor, on Feb. 16-17.

This is the first time that the two universities have collaborated to sponsor an event. Both institutions were founded by former Massachusetts Gov. William Claflin, and his father, Boston philanthropist Lee Claflin.

“The students are in for several sessions that will help them learn to manage their resumes, images and potential job prospects in the new technology age. With identity theft on the rise and prospective employers searching for information about applicants, understanding how to manage your own information is essential to success,” said Dr. Donna Gough, chair of the Claflin mass communications department.

Mrs. O'Connor will present several sessions throughout the seminar, including topics such as managing your digital image, networking, reputation management, career development, and event planning. The sessions are open to all Claflin University faculty and students and to the community.

She was formerly the director of public relations at the Boston Garden and the director of advertising, special events and publicity for the Boston Celtics. Mrs. O'Connor's areas of expertise are human resources and special events management.

All seminar events will be held at Ministers Hall on campus. For more information, contact Dr. Gough at (803) 535-5769.
