How did that audition go?
Joseff said, “It went well.”
What was it like?
“I’m really a kind of nonchalant person when it comes to opportunities like that. So, I wasn’t nervous and everything just flowed.”
By flowed do you mean singing?
“I mean singing, acting and conversation with the people in the room auditioning me.” Talk about the people.
“There were four people in the room including the accompanist. Three were judges and Justin Huff who was in charge of the casting.”
How long did the audition take?
“It took overall less than ten minutes.”
How many others contestants were there?
“Auditions were going on continuously.”
What are your hopes about hearing from them?
“I’d like to hear from them but I haven’t been waiting for their phone call. I’ve been auditioning and entering other competitions.”
Any results?
And Joseff said, “I did an online audition for Sean P. Diddy Combs, ‘Making the Band.’ (Making the Band is a popular reality show on MTV network. The search is on for male singers to form a group for P Diddy’s record company.)
Joseff explained, “The online audition is something they just started this year. After the first round they chose 25 people to move on to the second line of online auditions and I was among that 25.
How did that feel?
“Honestly, I was shocked. I did American Idol and I understood they’re not always looking for the most talented people in
Then what happened?
“For round two, I had to upload a video of me singing again and also a dance routine.”
A dance routine?
“And I thought to myself. Mmmmm dancing. Not a lot of people know I can dance. Still, I was kind of skeptical about my chances. I had to really work hard for the dance audition. I did a simple eight count and I had to perform a free style to a reggae-kind of beat. I uploaded it and from that they chose three people out of the 25 and I was one of the three.”
Your reaction?
“I really excited. I was really, really excited. I was OH WOW! I was excited.”
Then what?
“For me this was another opportunity about to happen. But I’m trying not to get over excited.”
What happens next? “The three people from the online audition are going to be flown to
So when do you go?
“I leave Sunday and the casting director told me to pack for a couple of months.”
What about graduating from Claflin?
“I only have one class to take this semester to get my degree and I’m going to have distant assignments emailed if I’m lucky enough to be chosen to remain for the duration of the show.”
How do you feel about Claflin helping to make this happen?
“I feel that Claflin has been completely supportive and I appreciate it to the fullest. I appreciate it so much.”
Are you going to miss Claflin?
He laughs, perhaps thinking about how good that would be if P. Diddy points his finger at him.
“But I will keep in touch,” he says still smiling in case it's the big break.
