Panthers Victorious Over The Shaw Bears 60-56

 

Orangeburg, SC- The Claflin University Panthers used clutch free throw shooting inside the 3 minute mark, by going 9-10, to hand the Bears of Shaw University a 60-56 loss. Casey Jackson went 2-2, and Phil Brown went 8-9 during the that span.

The Panthers were led by Jerome Starr with a game high 15 points, Phil Brown added 11 points, and Casey Jackson contributed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bears had three players in double figures in scoring. Oladamola Obadina, Melvin Smith, and Jonathan Mudd each scored 11 points. 

Claflin used its defense to force 22 Bear turnovers as well as out rebounding Shaw 46-36 to help seal the win. Claflin trailed only once in the contest early in the first half 4-2 at the 17:23 mark. The Panthers never trailed after that point as they scored 25 points off Bear turnovers and had 17 second chance points in the game.

The Panthers and Pantheretes will host the Hornets of Morris College, Monday January 8, 2007 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
