CALA-bash: Film festival spotlights student works

Music, art, and dance are only half of the fun Claflin University’s CALA-bash brings to Orangeburg.
On April 2, 2018, in GTK Auditorium, the second annual Film Festival Showcase was hosted by Brittany McKinnon. The event spotlighted student films, giving students an opportunity to express their art through digital media.
The festival featured first-place winner Thalia Butts’ film. The title of the freshman’s film is “Colored Canvas.” Its focus is on students discussing their passion for art and the arts.
Another winning film is by Aaron Nelson. His film, titled “Misinterpretation of a Colored Mind,” focuses on the mind of a colored man struggling with schizophrenia.
Jamellah Scott, graduating senior and psychology major, said of the event: “Although this was my first time attending, I really enjoyed the films that were featured. It showed the creativity and talent my fellow peers have.”
