Claflin University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate and master's degrees. The University is approved by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church for listing as a United Methodist Church related institution.
Every ten years, all accredited colleges in the southern states must be reaffirmed to demonstrate that they continue to meet the accreditation standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Claflin University was first accredited by SACS in 1948. The next reaffirmation is 2022.
SACSCOC reaffirmed Claflin University’s accreditation in December of 2011. The University maintains the standards specified by "The Principles of Accreditation" and notifies SACSCOC of all substantive changes.
