Mixed emotions on new cafeteria hours

Claflin students are seeing a big change this semester: Cafeteria hours have temporarily changed due to construction on the new student center.

Late-night was a time when students could go to the cafeteria and get a meal from 10 p.m. to midnight. That was canceled after Feb. 1.

The student center was scheduled to be complete by the end of 2023, but the opening has been delayed. The new facility will include a Papa John's pizza, Starbucks, Qdoba and a convenience store.

The cafeteria previously held dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The new hours in effect as of Feb. 1 expand the time to 5-8:30 p.m.

Students have mixed opinions about the new adjustment.

Kaliel Johnson, a junior, said, “I feel like the schedule with the cafe is not that bad. A lot of students get out of class late so this will let them have time to eat.”

Quentin Meaders has a different view: “Taking away late-night was crazy.”
