Brand stewardship · Policy draft

Protect the Marks That Represent Claflin.

University licensing helps ensure that merchandise, promotions, partnerships, and other uses of Claflin’s identity meet approved standards. This draft is ready for policy details and is not yet the University’s final licensing guidance.

Policy status

Structure Ready. Policy Approval Still Required.

This page intentionally does not name a licensing partner, application portal, license category, fee, exception, or approved vendor. Those details must come from an authoritative Claflin source before this page is indexed or promoted as policy.

Why licensing matters

One Identity. Used with Clarity and Care.

Claflin’s names, logos, wordmarks, seal, and other identifying marks represent the University’s history, reputation, and community. Licensing and artwork review help protect that identity while giving campus partners and vendors a clear path to use it correctly.

The University’s approved Brand Guidelines govern visual use of the identity. Licensing may add separate requirements for merchandise, sales, fundraising, giveaways, sponsorships, and other production. Following the Brand Guidelines does not by itself constitute licensing approval.

Start with the use

Plan for Review Before Production.

The examples below are draft categories for policy confirmation—not a final statement that every use is licensed or that an exception applies. Bring Communications & Marketing into the process early when Claflin’s identity will appear on a product or third-party communication.

Merchandise & Apparel

Products bearing Claflin names or marks that may be sold, distributed, or produced for a department, organization, event, or outside audience.

Promotional Items & Giveaways

Branded items created for recruitment, recognition, conferences, camps, alumni activity, sponsorships, or other University programs.

Fundraising & Student Organizations

Products or campaigns that use University identity to raise funds or represent a recognized campus group.

Advertising & Partnerships

Sponsorship, vendor, partner, or promotional materials that place Claflin marks beside another organization’s identity.

University Seal & Official Marks

Formal marks and institutional language whose use may be reserved for specifically approved University purposes.

New or Modified Artwork

Any proposed design that combines, alters, redraws, or adds wording or graphics near an official Claflin mark.

Draft process

A Clear Path from Idea to Approval.

This proposed sequence is ready to be connected to Claflin’s actual licensing administrator, vendor requirements, and application workflow.

01 · Define the Use

Document the item, quantity, audience, sales or fundraising status, sponsoring unit, event or campaign, and intended production date.

02 · Confirm the Vendor Pathway

Determine whether the work must use an approved or licensed vendor. Claflin’s official vendor rules and directory are pending confirmation.

03 · Submit Artwork for Review

Provide the proposed design and required licensing information through the University’s approved process. The application destination is pending.

04 · Wait for Written Approval

Do not manufacture, sell, or distribute the item until the responsible Claflin office or licensing administrator approves it in writing.

05 · Produce the Approved Version

Use only the approved artwork and specifications. Material changes may require another review before production.

Approved brand standards

Use Only Approved Claflin Marks.

Use official logo files and preserve their approved color, proportions, clear space, and minimum size. Do not redraw, distort, crop, recolor, rearrange, decorate, combine, or add effects to University marks.

The University seal is reserved for approved official uses and should not be used as routine decoration. Brand-guide compliance and licensing approval are separate requirements; a compliant design may still need review before production or distribution.

Each pending item needs an approved source or decision before this draft becomes public licensing guidance. Lincoln University’s page informed the structure only; its partner, categories, contacts, and requirements are not Claflin policy.
