Brand stewardship · University logos

One Identity. Used with Confidence.

Claflin’s logos carry the strength, history, and reputation of the University. Choose the approved mark that fits the format, preserve its integrity, and ask for guidance before creating a new application.

The logo system

Recognizable in Every Setting.

The stacked primary logo is Claflin’s preferred mark for general University communications. The horizontal logo is available when the format calls for a wider, lower profile. Approved one-color and inverse treatments support applications where the primary two-color mark would not provide sufficient contrast.

Always begin with an approved source file. The logo should never be recreated, redrawn, typed, traced, or assembled from separate pieces. Communications & Marketing can provide the correct format for web, presentations, print, apparel, signage, and vendor production.

Approved marks

Choose for the Format—Not Preference.

Appropriate use cases

Let the Application Choose the Mark.

The goal is consistency, legibility, and clear University attribution. If the format requires a treatment that is not shown or supplied, do not create one—request guidance.

General University Communications

Use the primary stacked logo when space allows. It is the preferred expression for materials representing Claflin University as a whole.

Web Headers & Wide Formats

Use the horizontal logo when the layout is wide or vertically constrained, while preserving minimum size and clear space.

Dark or Photographic Backgrounds

Use an approved one-color or inverse mark with strong contrast. Never place a logo over a busy area or an essential part of a photograph.

Schools, Offices & Units

Use only an approved school or unit lockup. When several units appear together, use the primary University logo rather than assembling multiple custom signatures.

Co-Branding & Partnerships

Keep Claflin’s mark distinct with its required clear space. Ask Communications & Marketing to review sponsorship or partner arrangements before release.

Wordmark-Only Applications

Use the wordmark only when necessary for a constrained application and only from an approved source file supplied by Communications & Marketing.

Size, space & color

Give the Logo Room to Lead.

Minimum Digital Size

Never display the stacked logo below 72px high or the horizontal logo below 72px wide. Use a larger size whenever detail or legibility is reduced.

Clear Space

Maintain clear space around the logo equal to the height of the “A” in CLAFLIN. Keep text, images, borders, and page edges outside that area.

Preferred Treatment

Prefer the two-color mark on white or pale gray. Approved one-color marks are maroon, orange, or white.

Orange Mark Restriction

The approved orange one-color logo may be used only on maroon. Never place it on white or another colored field.

Protect the mark

Keep Every Logo Unmistakably Claflin.

A logo remains trustworthy because it is consistent. Even small alterations weaken recognition and can create an unofficial identity.

Do Not Alter Color

Use only approved two-color or one-color treatments. Never introduce a custom color combination.

Do Not Distort

Never stretch, compress, rotate, skew, or change the proportions of any logo or mark.

Do Not Rearrange

Never move, remove, resize, or rebuild parts of the logo, symbol, wordmark, or approved lockup.

Do Not Add Effects

Never add shadows, gradients, outlines, glows, bevels, textures, or decorative treatments.

Do Not Crowd or Obstruct

Keep the required clear space. Do not crop the mark or place text, graphics, or page edges too close to it.

Do Not Create Combinations

Never attach new wording, graphics, mascots, slogans, or partner marks to form an unofficial logo.
