Mr. Henry Wade Johnson
Biography
H. Wade Johnson, educator, performer, music arranger and clinician, is a native of McClellanville, South Carolina. He is currently the Visiting Instructor of Music and Director of Bands at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Johnson earned his Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Instrumental Music Education and Secondary Counseling at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg South Carolina, a Master’s degree in Jazz Education, from Vander Cook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois, and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity in Philosophy (Specialization in Music Education) from Kennedy University of Baptist, France Ministry of Education, Florida Department of Education-USA.
He has traveled Internationally, performing with Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and Pee Wee Ellis, better known as the original “JB’s” (James Brown Band) and with his own bands “USSENSE” and “PRIDE” Ensemble. He has also performed with the late “DIZZY” Gillespie (his musical idol) Wynton and Ellis Marsalis, Joe Sample, Max Roach, Kenny Burrell, Martha Reeves, Maxine Nightingale, The Spinners, The Temptations, The Hawkins Family, Dorinda Clark Cole and Marvin Sapp.
