“We have been very intentional about our proactive measures,” Claflin President Dwaun J. Warmack said about homecoming week.
With homecoming’s big day taking place on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, Warmack wants to ensure that this year’s activities function safely.
On Nov. 14, Claflin’s Student Government Association and Student Activities Board collaborated on a post regarding safety for the 2025 homecoming.
The post titled “The Hilltop Homecoming Standard” details the safety measures that will be in place for homecoming. Below are a few safety precautions Claflin University has implemented:
● Increased security across campus
● Clear bag policy for all events, including the tailgate
● Security screening at all events
● IDs must be shown before entering the tailgate and other events
● Claflin students must have their Claflin ID at all times
● Anyone under 18 must be with a parent or guardian (except Claflin students)
● 16+ must have a government-issued ID
● Amplified music ends at 6 pm
● Tailgating ends at 7 pm
Increased security stems from the recent shootings on HBCU campuses during the homecoming season. “There has been an uptick,” Warmack said.
Claflin University wants to ensure the safety of students while still giving students the full homecoming experience. “Homecoming still will go on, but we are investing in a lot of security and safety infrastructure,” Warmack said.
