Claflin University Concert Choir to Present ‘Messiah’ Dec. 3

Nov 26, 2013

Kick off the holidays with a live performance of George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” performed by the Claflin University Concert Choir and members of Orangeburg area church choirs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Stevenson Auditorium in downtown Orangeburg.

This special holiday presentation is free and open to the public. Also featured will be performances by choruses from Mellichamp Elementary School in Orangeburg and Peach County High School in Fort Valley, Ga.

“Messiah,” under the direction of Claflin’s Dr. Isaiah McGee, was written more than 250 years ago, and is one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. It serves as an extended reflection on Jesus Christ as Messiah – journeying through the prophecies of His birth, life, death, resurrection and glorification in heaven.

The event is being sponsored by Claflin University, the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association, the City of Orangeburg and Century 21 The Moore Group.

Stevenson Auditorium is at 979 Middleton Street in Orangeburg. For more information, call Tracie Tisdale at 803-535-5193 or email tntisdale@claflin.edu.
