Claflin students anticipate the grand opening of the university’s new student center.

It’s expected to be complete and open in late February. The new student center is to include food options like Papa John’s, along with new additions such as a ballroom and movie theater. The student center will also be open to the public.

Claflin students are expressing their excitement about the new student center and what to look forward to.

Trinity Robinson, a sophomore mass communications major, is excited about the new restaurants that would be available to students.

“I’m most excited for the newcoming restaurants that are going to be in the new student center, which means more dining options,” she said.

Virginia White, a sophomore biology major, says she is most excited about the addition of a bowling alley, which would give the students something else to do on campus.

“The thing I’m most excited for the new student center has to be the bowling alley because it finally gives us something else on campus and a fun little activity to invite your friends to and just bond with each other.”

Maricellyn McDonald, a freshman biology and mass communications double major, said the addition of a hair salon is exciting for those with natural hair.

“I think there’s supposed to be like a hair center in the student center, which I think will be really cool. I’m all about natural hair and stuff and I think that’s very exciting.”

Jaydon Edwards, a freshman computer science major, sees the new student as new beginnings for not only Claflin, but also the community.

“I’m really excited for new beginnings. You know, I feel like the student center is gonna bring a lot to Claflin University. Having a new food court, having a movie theater towards Orangeburg, a lot of people could come in for the movie theater.”
