Claflin Donates $1,375 in Gift Cards to CASA Family Systems

Dec 24, 2014

We’ve all heard that it’s better to give than to receive. The Claflin University family has taken that saying to heart by collecting $1,375 in gift cards for CASA Family Systems in Orangeburg. A crib was also donated to the center.

The cards were collected during “Christmas at Dunwalton” on Dec. 11. Gift cards from stores such as CVS, Walgreens and Walmart have been collected during the University’s annual faculty and staff holiday gathering at the President’s house for the last decade, and are distributed each year to a different local charitable organization.

CASA/Family Systems is a private not for profit organization serving Bamberg, Calhoun and Orangeburg counties whose primary focus is providing support, advocacy, and intervention to individuals and families who have been affected by sexual assault, family violence, and/or child abuse and neglect. In the State of South Carolina CASA/Family Systems is operates one of the 19 statewide temporary emergency domestic violence shelters, one of 23 sexual assault and domestic violence programs, and one of  17 Child Advocacy Centers.

Accepting the donation was COO Labrena Aiken-Furtick who expressed their appreciation for the gift cards and the crib that will go toward helping families in need.
