Claflin University Gospel Choir D.R.E.A.M. Releases Debut Album

Aug 07, 2015

The Claflin University Gospel Choir, formally known as D.R.E.A.M., has released its debut album titled “D.R.E.A.M. The Live Experience.”  The choir, known for its high energy performances, ensures that this album captivates audiences of all genres.

The album features spirit-filled original songs such as: “New Me,” “Song of Expectation,” “Highest Praise” and “The Lifter.” Vowing to leave the atmosphere charged and lives changed, the debut album has already received rave reviews.

“I’m excited about the release of this project, mainly because it provides a plethora of styles of gospel music,” said La’Quentin Jenkins, senior religion major and D.R.E.A.M. director.” I think we’ve covered church music to good ole worship music. It’s very inspirational and it has a positive message behind it. The choir has worked very hard to get this out.”

Each member of the young adult choir brings a unique sound and contribution to the project. The choir continues to minister to those on Claflin’s campus, in the Orangeburg community and across the state of South Carolina.

“We just want people to hear the message behind the music,” Jenkins said. “When a lot of people get together from different backgrounds, different socioeconomic statuses and different denominations, we are able to come together with one purpose which is to glorify God. It’s amazing.”

D.R.E.A.M. which is the acronym for Disciples Reaching Excellent Achievement through Ministry, is comprised of Claflin University students who wish to spread the gospel and share their musical talents.  Historically, D.R.E.A.M. was derived from the Student Christian Association Gospel Choir, which was later renamed Claflin University Gospel Choir in 2002, and in 2010 the name D.R.E.A.M. was adopted.

D.R.E.A.M. serves as the sanctuary choir for Sunday services and the inspirational choir for many of the Power Hour Services held at the James and Dorothy Z. Elmore Chapel. In 2013, the choir was awarded the Presidential Citation for dedicated service to the chapel.

The album is available for purchase via Amazon.com, CD Baby, Googleplay, Spotify and iTunes. For booking information and to purchase hard copies contact Juretta Dash, D.R.E.A.M. Advisor via email at jadash@claflin.edu or at (803) 535-5228.
