Award-Winning Author Omar Tyree To Speak At Claflin University Lyceum Series

The Claflin University Lyceum Series will open its 2015-16 season with a presentation by award-winning author
Omar Tyree on Thursday Oct. 15, 7:30 p.m. at the W.V. Middleton Fine Arts Center. The program is free and open to the public. The Lyceum Series comprises guest lecturers, performers and events that stimulate and reinforce the cultural and intellectual environment of the campus and community.
Tyree, a New York Times best-selling author, has published 16 books and has sold nearly two million copies worldwide. In 2006, Tyree was the Phillis Wheatley Literary Award winner for Body of Work in Urban Fiction.
He received the 2001 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literature in Fiction.
Tyree is a native of Philadelphia, Pa., and he earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1991 at Howard University.
Tyree’s journey as an entrepreneur began in his early 20s when he started the book publishing company Mar Productions, to release his earliest works of fiction. Tyree also started Hot Lava Entertainment, a synergy production company for books, music, and film. Tyree recently released his first movie “The Lure of Young Women” which is available on DVD nationwide. He is also currently working on his first non-fiction book entitled The Equation: Applying the 4 Indisputable Components of Business Success.
Tyree became one of the dominant literary self-promoters of the 1990s, leading to offers of publishing deals by a number of influential mainstream book publishers. In 1995, he signed a lucrative two-book arrangement with publishing powerhouse Simon & Schuster. A few years later Tyree signed a lucrative long-term fiction contract. Tyree’s articles have appeared in The Washington Post and Essence Magazine.
Tyree has been recognized as one of the most renowned contemporary writers in the African-American community. He is also an informed and passionate speaker on various community-related and intellectual topics. In his “Equation for Life” lecture, he weaves together a formula for attaining life-long success in business, as well as everyday living. Tyree is a tireless creator and visionary of few limitations.
