Hurricane Florence Update #6 – September 13, 2018

Claflin University remains closed until further notice. The National Weather Center continues to predict that Hurricane Florence will impact South Carolina. Tropical storm conditions are possible in Orangeburg beginning Friday, September 14.

Claflin University’s Emergency Preparedness Team is continuing to secure the campus and respond to the needs of students, faculty and staff in the wake of Hurricane Florence.

Tomorrow, students who were unable to leave the Orangeburg area will be relocated to the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of South Carolina State University to “shelter-in-place.” The University has partnered with South Carolina State University to provide a clean, safe, comfortable environment during the storm. Meals will be provided at the Center. Claflin University Residential Life Coordinators will be on-hand at the Center to assist and answer questions in case of emergencies. Today, the University Dining Center will operate from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for brunch and from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for dinner. Late night dining will be hosted from 10 p.m. until 12 midnight. The Dining Center will be closed tomorrow until further notice. Students who are being relocated will begin eating meals at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.

Updates will be sent by email, posted on social media, and sent through the emergency text messaging service (Regroup.com) to alert the campus family of when the University will reopen and when classes will resume.
