Faith McKie to be Crowned Miss Claflin University

The coronation of Faith Dominique McKie as Miss Claflin University for the 2019-2020 academic year will be held Thursday, October 24, at 7 p.m. in the W.V. Middleton Fine Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public. 
McKie is a senior sport management major from Columbia, S.C.  She has maintained a 3.9 grade point average as a member of the Alice Carson Tisdale Honors College. McKie is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society and the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. She won a $5,000 scholarship as one of four Grand Prize winners of the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Coca Cola /Food Lion Essay Contest. The prize presentations were made during the 2019 CIAA Basketball Tournament at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.  
McKie's list of honors away from athletics also includes being selected last summer to participate in the Minor League Baseball " Fostering Inclusion through Education and Leadership Development" Program (FIELD). The program was  created under the Minor League Baseball (MiLB) Diversity Initiative as a way to engage the next generation of diverse leaders in sports business.
McKie is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Nu Chapter. In 2018, McKie won the title of Miss Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. She has worked with numerous campus committees and organizations including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, A. Bevy Collegiate Group, and the Honors Council.
As a standout member of the Claflin University Women's Track and Field Program, McKie earned First Team All-Conference honors after her first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles at the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In January 2019, she was named CIAA Indoor Track and Field Runner of the Week.
McKie is a 2016 graduate of Ridge View High School where she was member of the BioHealth Magnet Program, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and the Beta Club. She was also a three-time state champion as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team which set a state record. McKie also established school records in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles and the 4x400 meter relay.
