NBC Today Show Host Virtually Visits Claflin University

On Thursday, March 11, 2021, Mass Communications Instructor Bianca Shelton interviewed Today Show host, Craig Melvin and his mother, Betty Melvin.
The conversation covered Craig’s start as a young journalist, social anxiety, stress management techniques, interviewing tips, and strategies for success in media.
 
A native of Columbia, S.C., Craig received a bachelor's degree in government from Wofford College. After graduating from Wofford, Craig returned to his hometown and served in many capacities at WIS-TV including news photographer, producer, reporter and eventually news anchor. In 2008, Craig joined WRC-TV in Washington, DC, as the weekend evening news anchor. 
 
In 2011, Craig joined MSNBC as a daytime anchor and contributed to NBC News as a reporter. While at MSNBC, he covered many stories including the Sandy Hook shootings, George Zimmerman trial, the death of Freddie Gray, and the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In 2018, Craig joined the Today Show as a news anchor.
