Claflin University Ranked Eighth in College Choice Poll of Top 25 Colleges/Universities in South Carolina

Aug 13, 2021
Claflin University’s commitment to academic excellence has earned South Carolina’s oldest historically black college/university (HBCU) a place among the top national and regional liberal arts colleges and universities. Claflin’s growing list of impressive rankings includes being listed eighth in College Choice’s 2021 poll of the Top 25 Colleges and Universities in South Carolina. College Choice is a leading online authority in college and university rankings and resources.

Claflin University is the only HBCU listed in the ranking.

According to their website, College Choice’s methodology for selecting the top schools includes using data related to academic quality – including test scores and student-to-faculty ratios to develop its rankings. Student body diversity, tuition and fees, and return on investment and the expected early career income for graduates are other variables. Data used by College Choice are provided by College Scorecard, a U.S. Department of Education source that offers information on colleges and universities and the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), a division of the National Center for Education Statistics run by the U.S. Department of Education.

“We are extremely proud that the University’s upward trajectory is reflected in national and regional rankings that highlight our exceptional academic programs, student-centered campus environment, world-class faculty, and supportive and loyal alumni,” said Claflin President Dwaun J. Warmack. “These rankings support our strategic initiatives related to growing the endowment, increasing student enrollment, and enhancing brand awareness. They also strengthen our relationships with other premier higher education institutions.”

For more than two decades, Claflin has received national recognition as a leading liberal arts university by prestigious print and online publications, including U.S. News and World Report, Forbes, and Washington Monthly.

Founded in 1869, Claflin was chartered and continues to provide access to high-quality academic programs to all students without regard to ethic origin, gender, race, or religion.  The University is affiliated with The United Methodist Church.
